Baby talk

So this pregnancy has successfully gone full term, and what I mean by that is I am officially four days away from my due date. Well done, little Rossini, WELL DONE. J and I (and some major help from my Mom) spent most of the weekend preparing the house for this little munchkin. Baby clothes washed? Check. Changing station organized? Check. Car seat installed? Check. Freezer full of convenience dinners? Check. (In fact, it’s so full that dare I say I’m afraid to open it?) Graco Snap n Go stroller assembled? Check check.

One thing I have come to realize is this baby comes with an plethora of stuff. So much for a tiny person –bathtubs, baby soap, a swing, baby monitors, play pen, onesies, blankets, and more. We each spent the better part of yesterday morning putting together the last of the baby related items. Me: the high-tech baby monitor for our tiny house and J: the play pen. J obviously had much more fun as he was still talking about how cool the play pen is at dinner. I fought with batteries, cursed at plastic packaging, and cried at spontaneous never-ending peeping (well, until I took the batteries out!)

Now, I am not one of those woman who love being pregnant (the nausea, weight gain, inability to tie shoelaces), and, in fact, am so excited for someone else to hold this heavy bundle of joy. But since I generally like to be a “glass half-full” type of gal, I thought I might share some of my favorite things that I loved about this pregnancy.

J’s face when the doctor showed us the heartbeat at 12 weeks.

Applesauce. Strawberries. Cantaloupe. Oranges. Applesauce, and wait for it, Applesauce.

The feel of baby kicks after eating applesauce.

When J “talks” to the burgeoning stomach about how great USC football is, and that the Giants are the best team in baseball.

The $1,500 worth of crap we donated to Goodwill this year, and the refund it garners. Definitely a perk.

The sheer amount of time waiting in the doctor’s office. I would have never finished Anna Karenina otherwise.

Forcing me to take life just a bit more slowly. And collecting back rubs on the way.

So, sweet little one, take as long as you need, but not too long. I’m getting dreadfully impatient and looking forward to meeting you face-to-face (and finding out your name!) And also, we WILL use that baby monitor even though our walls our paper thin. And you may just have to fight your dad for the play pen.

:) so you're probably in the hospital right now. If I had known, I would have made an effort to get my posts done sooner. But, the lecture really killed me.
